Comprehensive College Planning and Placement Education
Solutions provides a myriad of college counseling services expertly
tailored to the unique needs of each family. Some students simply
need a professional opinion on a college list that includes two
“reach,” two “probable” and two “safety”
schools. Other students want to find a list of colleges that will
provide financial assistance through merit-based scholarships. Still
others want to explore schools in geographic locations that are
unfamiliar. In all cases, the Education Solutions staff stresses
goodness of fit, more concerned about where a student will prosper
academically, emotionally and socially, than simply where an acceptance
can be secured. Sophomores and Juniors often come to Education Solutions
for help in picking courses that are necessary for acceptance at
the colleges of their choice.
Students who need more hands-on services especially benefit from
working with the staff at Education Solutions. Certified teachers,
school and college administrators and school psychologists work
with parents and students to make the entire process less stressful.
Essay and Application Guidance: Students write
essays in our office under the supervision of experienced high school
and college English teachers. Still others need assistance with
the entire application process from filling out and printing applications
to writing and stamping envelopes for teacher recommendations and
assembling information for high school guidance counselors.
SAT, SAT II and ACT Test Preparation:
We work closely with student to help them prepare for standardized
college entrance exams.
Coordination With School Personnel: We also work
closely with Guidance Counselors to insure that every aspect of
a student’s record and needs are taken into consideration.
Interview Preparation: Mock interviews are also
set up with college Deans and Professors to give our students much
needed experience in interviewing at highly competitive liberal
arts institutions.
Planning for Students With Learning Disabilities:
Our learning disabled students greatly benefit from working with
our experienced staff members to set up college programs for students
with learning differences.
Our goal is to make the entire process calm and organized while
still insuring that each STUDENT – and not a parent
or professional – takes responsibility for his or her own
college process.
Adjustment to College: Our work with our college
counseling students does not end with high school graduation. We
often work with our students once they are in college, helping them
to pick courses, choose a major or acting as a sounding board for
the transitional problems that often occur during the initial months
of a post-secondary experience. This often includes discussion with
college Deans and learning specialists in college resource centers.
The Education Solution staff also works with new students who may
want to transfer from a college or university.
Graduate School Placement: We offer the same set
of services tailored for graduate school placement. Our graduate
school counselors have advanced degrees and have successfully navigated
the competitive graduate school admissions process.
NACAC Membership: Education Solutions is a member
of NACAC – National Association of College Admissions Counselors.
We also participate in yearly conferences sponsored by The College
Board.
Independent School Placement
Comprehensive Independent Day and Boarding School Counseling and
Placement including:
• Learning Disability Planning and Placement
• Updated Openings in Independent Schools
• Interview Techniques
• Essay Preparation and Coaching
• SSAT Preparation [link to Test Preparation]
• Individual SSAT Administration
Our staff is comprised of a large percentage of teachers and administrators
who are certified in the public sector, however, most have also
worked in independent boarding and day schools as teachers, Directors
of Admission, administrators and Trustees. When considering an independent
school option, it is essential that the needs of an entire family
be considered. Therefore, a school psychologist and an academic
counselor work with families to explore the possibility of independent
schools and look for the “right” school for every student.
As specialists in curriculum, our staff is able to quickly determine
an appropriate level of institution and assist with course selection.
As with our college process, we provide both minimal and extensive
services to our families. We are available to simply provide a school
“list,” or work with students in a hands-on way, overseeing
the writing of applications and essays and offering mock interviews.
Again, we believe that it is our major responsibility to insure
that the student “owns” his or her process and takes
responsibility with appropriate support.
Our staff at Education Solutions participates in a variety of organizations
and conferences for independent schools, included those sponsored
by CAIS Connecticut Association of Independent Schools, NAIS National
Association of Independent Schools, NELMS New England League of
Middle Schools, and ISM Independent School Management. |
